Howell Township Services
 

ELECTIONS:  Federal, State, County, Township and Howell Public School elections are held at the Township Hall for Precinct 2 and at M-TEC, Transwest Industrial Park, 1240 Packard Drive for Precincts 1 and 3.  Voter Registration is available at the Clerk’s office at the Township Hall during business hours or at any Secretary of State office and County Clerk’s Office.  For further information the Howell Township Election Coordinator may be reached at (517) 546-2817 ext. 105.

FIRE:  Fire service is provided by the Howell Area Fire Authority (517) 546-0560. 

LAND DIVISION:  Land divisions in Howell Township are handled through the  Land Division Review Board.  Application is fifty dollars ($50.00) and each split is one hundred dollars ($100.00). Contact Jim Stover (517) 546-2817 ext. 107 for further information.

LAND USE PERMITS:  A Land Use Permit must be obtained for any structures, such as: fences, swimming pools, buildings, additions and alterations to buildings and demolition of buildings. Applications for Land Use Permits are available at the Township Hall.  Questions should be directed to Carolyn Eaton at (517) 546-2817 ext. 106.

MEMBERSHIPS:   Howell Township is a member of Michigan Township Association; Recycle Livingston; Howell Area Fire Authority; Marion, Howell, Oceola, Genoa Water Authority; Michigan Society of Planners; Livingston County Supervisors Association; Livingston County Clerk Association; Michigan Association of Municipal Clerks; International Institute of Municipal Clerks;  Livingston County Treasurers Association; Howell Carnegie District Library; Livingston County Economic Development Council.

NOTARY SERVICE:  Several employees at the Township Hall are qualified to provide Notary Service.  There is no fee for this service.

PARKS AND RECREATION:  The Township Board is currently planning the  purchase of land for Township parks.  The property at the corner of Byron and Barron Roads just north of the Township Hall is in the planning stages for a small neighborhood park.

POLICE:  Howell Township is serviced by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department (517) 546-2440 and the Michigan State Police.

PUBLIC NOTICE:  Public notices are posted at the front door of the Township hall, on the home page of this website and published in the Community News; (- the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus will be the backup).  If you do not receive this paper, you can pick one up at the Township Hall.

ROADS: Township roads are maintained through the Livingston County Road Commission (517) 546-4250

SEWER:   Howell Township residents with municipal sewer are serviced through the Howell Township Waste Water Treatment Plant – billing questions should  be directed to  Maureen Strayer (517) 546-2817 ext. 102.

SITE PLAN REVIEWS:  The Planning Commission meets twice a month. They are responsible for the Master Plan, Ordinances, Site Plan Reviews, etc.  The Zoning and Planning Department can be reached at  (517) 546-2817 ext. 106.

TAX COLLECTION:  The Treasurer’s department at the Township Hall collects both summer and winter taxes, issues dog licenses, also can check special assessments..  The Township office DOES NOT accept Debit and/or Credit Cards as a form of payment.  For information regarding taxes call, (517) 546-2817 ext. 101.  All tax information is available through the link to BS&A software from the home page. 

WATER: Howell Township residents with municipal water are serviced through the Marion, Howell, Oceola, Genoa Water (M H O G) Authority.  Billing questions should be directed to Carol (800) 881-4109.  Service questions should be directed to Barb (517) 545-1339.
